Obituary for Robert Wayne Kierstead

EASTPORT – Robert W. Kierstead,65, passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012 surrounded by his loving family at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Bob was born November 7, 1946 in Calais to Basil and Fern (Newman) Kierstead. He grew up in Eastport where he attended the local schools until he moved to Massachusetts to work in a tannery. After 7 years he returned to Eastport where he met Rebecca Chapais, they married April 6, 1975 and resided in Eastport from then on. Bob worked at Warrens Fish Factory for many years until its closing. He then worked for City of Eastport Cemetery Department and Guilford Industries until his retirement in 1990. Bob enjoyed many things including hunting, fishing, camping with his family but his greatest enjoyment was the time spent with his family, he particularly loved spending time with his granddaughter, Courtney. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his brothers Richard and Russell Kierstead. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Rebecca Kierstead; son, Robert C. B. Kierstead and his companion Megan Andrews; granddaughter Courtney Kierstead, all of Eastport; and two brothers, Stanley Kierstead of Dixfield and Glenn Kierstead and his wife Jackie of CO. Visiting hours will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday by Rev. James Plourde, Celebrant, at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Eastport. Committal will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
