Pembroke – Robert “Bob” Michael Lewey, 59, passed away after a long courageous battle with POEMS Syndrome. Bob was born in Eastport on July 21, 1956, son of the late Sabattus Sr. and Irene (LaCoute) Lewey. He graduated from Shead Memorial High School, class of 1975, where he excelled in track and basketball and became somewhat of a legend for his hook shot. Shortly after high school Bob served his country in the United States Navy. He loved fishing and moose hunting with his brothers and went to great lengths to catch all the Red Sox games. Bob had a passion for all sports, and enjoyed coaching the kids in basketball at Pembroke Elementary School for many years. He became a pool shark and was a master at 8 ball. Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Cynthia (Brady) Lewey; two sons, Jeffrey and his wife Crystal of CA and Justin and his companion Kelsey of Baileyville; two daughters, Candi of Pembroke and Shania of Pleasant Point; seven grandchildren, Keanu, Braydi, Kaeson, Kaia, Ella, Hayden and Lucas; mother-in-law, Sheila Murray; nine brothers, Carlton, Sabattus Jr. and his wife Betty, Dennis, George, Thomas, Michael and his wife Shonna, Jimmy, Walter and Paul; five sisters, Jan, Gloria and her husband Frank, Catha, Sandra, and Evelyn and her husband Devon; three brothers-in-law, Raymond and his wife Carolyn, Kevin and his wife Paula and Scott and his wife Rhonda; sister-in-law, Michele and her husband Steven; Godchild, Brett Lewey; his special caregivers, Aunt Jeannie “Beanie” Murray and Aunt Winnie Jodway as well as special friend, Aaron Surles and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Gladys; brother, Richard “Moe” Lewey; father-in-law, David Murray and his aunts, Edna Soup Gabriel, Mary Lou Tomah, Angela Barnes and Mary C. Lola. In keeping with Bob’s wishes a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
