Calais – Robert E. McIninch, 75, passed away peacefully Friday, February 14, 2014 at his home with his loving wife by his side. Robert was born in St. Stephen, N.B. on June 26, 1938, son of the late Frank and Pauline (Northup) McIninch. After graduating from Lawrence Station Regional School, Class of 1956, he moved to Franklin, MA, where he worked in lawn and gardening. Robert eventually returned to Calais and worked for Dicenzo’s for a few years until beginning his career with Georgia Pacific, where he worked as a pipefitter for over 25 years. Robert started his own business, Down East Paving, which he owned and operated for over 25 years with the assistance of his wife Yvonne and son Danny. He took great pride in his work and always tried to please his customers. Robert was always willing to lend a helping hand, even after his retirement and during his illness.
In addition to his parents, Robert was predeceased by a son, Robbie McIninch; his sister Shirley McIninch; and a grandson Danny Pinney. Robert’s passing leaves sadness, sorrow, and happy memories to those he leaves behind. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years Yvonne (Whirty) McIninch; a son Daniel McIninch of Pembroke; daughter Cindy Wartman and husband Buck of Calais; grandsons Cory Cavanagh of Augusta, and Sean Cavanagh of Calais; three great-grandsons, Adam Cavanagh, and Alex and James Pinney; his brother Donnie McIninch and wife Cheryl of Windsor, ON; two sisters, Helen Mitchell of Windsor, ON, and Elaine MacKinnon and husband Elwyn of Hamilton, ON; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Robert’s life will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at Second Baptist Church, 21 Church St., Calais. Donations in Robert’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
