Robert Patterson, 57, of Perry, Maine, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2023. He was born in New Jersey on September 21, 1965, son of the late Sheldon and Priscilla (Cushman) Patterson.
To many, Robert was known as, “SpongeBob,” “Oink,” or “Robbie”. He graduated from Shead High School class of 1984. He then joined the U.S. Navy, being stationed in the Philippines. When his father became ill, Robert came home to Perry where he began working at New Friendly Restaurant. He later married Jennifer (Mullen) March 31, 1990. Robert worked side by side with Jennifer and his mother at the New Friendly Restaurant where employees and customers were family.
Robert had many jobs throughout the years but enjoyed serving the community the most. He was always first to volunteer to take graduating classes on class trips or to drive any sports team to their games. In the past, he was a member of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Perry Rec Committee, St. Croix Country Club, umpired many baseball and little league games and coached Perry Elementary Soccer Team. Recently, Robert served as the Town Warden at the voting booth in the town of Perry.
Robert was well known throughout Washington County. He took pride in his community and supporting all he could. He will be missed by many.
Robert was happiest when he was on the side by side with the Secret Squirrel Club. Robert’s voice and contagious laugh could be heard wherever he was. He would always be seen carrying his big blue cup. He had a nickname for almost everyone, and knew that if he was teasing you, it was always a good thing.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Patterson, of 32 years; his daughter Megan and boyfriend Brayden Finn, and daughter Vanessa, husband Adam and his “punkaroo,” Gavin; his grandmother, Eva Cushman; half-sister Sally Gaffey; Brothers-in-law Jonathan Mullen and wife Kristin, Brian Mullen, and his partner in crime, Robert “Bobby” Mullen. As well as his special friends at the Waco and many friends, nieces, nephews, aunts, extended family, and bonus kids.
Robert was predeceased by his parents and younger sister, Melinda.
The family would like to thank the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Down East EMS and Calais Community Hospital for all of their support and efforts.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Shead High School Athletic Boosters or Perry Elementary School.
