Calais - Robert “Bob” Steadman, 83, went home to be with the Lord September15, 2007. Bob was born February 11, 1924 in Cambridge, Mass. Bob attended schools in Calais, and joined the US Navy in 1941 during WWII and served on many ships. After leaving the Navy in 1946, he joined the Hialeah Fire Department in Hialeah, Florida. Bob retired from there in 1976, with 24 years of service after serving as Fire Marshall, Head of Hialeah Fire Department Credit Union, and then retired as the District Chief. He moved back to Calais after retirement and served as Mayor and City Councilor for 7 years and was on the planning board for 3 years. His first love was working for the Lord. He was a member of Baring Baptist Church for 22 years, then he became a member of the 1ST Congregational Church in Calais where he actively served for the last 5 years, he was the Assistant Treasurer, Trustee, and Deacon. Bob was a Mason for 40 years. He was an active member of the V.F.W. Post #9779. He was very active in his community and was very patriotic. Bob enjoyed people and was happiest when he had a house full of family and friends. He was known for his hard work ethic and his enthusiasm for life and if he knew you well, most often he would greet you with a little “dance!” Bob will be greatly missed by so many. He was predeceased by his father, William Steadman, his mother, Nina B. Steadman, a brother John Steadman and his wife “Bunny” Steadman. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Beulah A. Steadman of Calais and 7 children; Sons, Jimmy Steadman and his wife, Theresa of Lake Placid, FL, Shannon Steadman and Karen Yardley of Bangor, David Steadman and Caroline of Daytona Beach, FL; Daughters, Carol Steadman of Pembroke Pines, FL, GiGi Balas and husband Paul Balas of Naples, FL, Bobbi Daggett and Jim Martell of Calais, and Kim Johnson and husband Bert Johnson of LeHigh Acres, FL; Grandchildren, Deana Steadman, Jimmy Steadman, Michael Gillette, Alyce Steadman, Danielle Steadman, Taylor Steadman, David Steadman, Daniel Steadman, Katie Steadman, P.J. Daggett, Lindsey Daggett, Andrew Johnson, Robert Paul Johnson; and Several Great-Grandchildren as well.
