Pleasant Point – Rose Marie Kennard, 69, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Calais Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Rose was born at Pleasant Point on March 7, 1942. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, bead work, braiding sweet grass, playing bingo and spending time with her family and friends. Rose was predeceased by her mother Grace (Bailey) Dana; three daughters, Marilyn Graves, Joy Pinder and Janice Dana; a son Freeman Kennard Jr.; two grandchildren, Stanley Quinn and Chester Quinn Jr.; a sister Gladys Paul; and two brothers Sopiel and Roger Dana. Surviving are five children, George Pinder of Mass., Peggy Pinder of Machiasport, Rosa Kennard of Bangor, Lisa Brown and her companion Arthur Brown of Calais, and Phyllis Kennard and her fiancé Robert Murray of Perry; three brothers, Andrew, John and Donnell Dana; five sisters, Geraldine Romano, Gracie Emmert, Thelma Bassett, Lulu Homan, and Cecil Trott; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly; her two special caretakers, granddaughter and companion Kayla Preston, and niece Cindy Lewey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank her nurse practitioner, Eileen Runcy; the staff at Pleasant Point Health Center, and the staff at Calais Regional Hospital for the excellent care that Rose received. Visiting hours were held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at the Elders Meal Site, Pleasant Point. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father James Plourde on Friday, November 18, 2011 at St. Ann R.C. Church, Pleasant Point. Burial followed in the Tribal Cemetery.
