Eastport – Rose Ann Raymond, 73, passed away Friday, December 9, 2011 at a Bangor hospital. Rose was born in Eastport on October 12, 1938, daughter of the late John Raymond and Clara (Foley) Raymond Balkam. She graduated from Shead Memorial High School and worked in an office in Calais until beginning her career as a Chemist with the Mearl Corp. in Eastport. Rose attended the University of Maine in Machias and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Eastport. She enjoyed reading, fishing and taking walks with her dog. Surviving are her two sisters, Pauline Amsden of Bristol, NH, and Linda Smith and her husband Chris of Hill, NH; a brother William Balkam and his wife Lee of Northfield, NH; two nephews Keith Leach of Franklin, NH, and Kevin Leach and his wife Jennifer of Laconia, NH; two nieces Sheri Smith of Franklin, NH, and Peggy Amsden of Bristol, NH; great niece Kenzie Amsden; great nephews Calvin, Christopher, Aaron, Ian and Eathan Leach, Jonathan Marsh and Joshua Smith; and her faithful canine companion Babe. A celebration of Rose’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2011 at Mays Funeral Home – Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
