Calais – Roy Earle Damon, 60, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2009 at his home. Roy was born in St. Stephen, N.B. Canada on October 28, 1948, son of Willis and Ruth (Pratt) Damon. He graduated from Princeton High School, Class of 1967. Roy worked for Georgia Pacific until being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam with the 1st Infantry Division where he received the Bronze Star Medal. After being honorably discharged, Roy returned home to Princeton and opened Damon Brothers logging company with his brother Keith; he also worked for the State Highway Department and with LaPlant Trucking as a skidder and truck operator. He then went back to the mill, where he worked until December, 2007. Roy was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. He was also a proud and good standing member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Roy was predeceased by his father Willis “Bill” Damon, his son, Jarrod Damon and his niece, Jessica Kelly. Surviving are his mother, Ruth Damon of Princeton; his companion of 11 years, Sandra Draper-Hayward of Calais; a daughter-in-law Amy Damon of Grand Lake Stream; two grandchildren, Bailey and Willis “Billy” Damon of Grand Lake Stream; two sisters, Ellen Carle and her husband Ernest of Princeton, and Deborah Kelley and her husband Ronald of Princeton; his brother, Keith Damon and his wife Gertrude of Princeton; many nieces and nephews; dear friend Joe Mitchell of Calais and many other special friends; and his precious canine companion Lucky Bruno.
