Obituary for Ruby Louise Cyganowski

Eastport - Ruby Louise (Cheverie) Cyganowski, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 07, 2013 at the Eastport Memorial Nursing home, surrounded by her loving family. Ruby was born in Eastport on April 8, 1925, daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (McPhail) Cheverie. She attended Shead Memorial High School and worked as a packer for the local sardine factories. In November of 1968, after marrying Frank Cyganowski, they soon moved to Fairhaven, MA where she lived for 43 years. Upon Frank's death, Ruby returned to Eastport to be with her loving family.
Ruby enjoyed spending her summers in Eastport with her sister, Maybell. She also enjoyed extensive traveling with her husband. She also loved to garden, sew, crochet, read and to dance.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, sister and aunt. She will also be remembered for her great sense of humor and her love for animals.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Frank; her brother, Sheldon; her brother-in-law, George R. Scott and her nephew, George H. Scott.
Ruby is survived by her sister, Maybell Scott of Eastport; her brother, Louis Cheverie and his wife, Renee' of Danbury, CT; nieces, Diana Boone and her husband, William; and Nancy Seeley and her husband, Andrew all of Eastport; five grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and fifteen great-grand nieces and great-grand nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at 12 noon until 1 P.M., Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Mays Funeral Home, 72 High Street, Eastport. A celebration of Ruby's life will begin at 1 P.M. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ruby's memory to Paws, 368 South St., Calais, ME 04619, or the Eastport Memorial Nursing Home, 23 Boynton St., Eastport, ME 04631.
