Ruth A Doten

Meddybemps - Mrs. Ruth Ardene Doten, age 77, of Meddybemps, Maine, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017. She was at her winter residence, in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Ruth was born April 13, 1940, in Milltown, Maine. She was the daughter of Harley Baker and Edna Cookson, and stepmother Margaret Baker. While she worked outside the home at times, Ruth’s family was her life’s work. She treasured time spent with all of them. Ruth loved reading and enjoyed crocheting afghans, giving them to family and friends. Ruth also donated many to Hospice, the Veteran’s Hospital, and local maternity ward nurseries for the newborn babies. Ruth counted her blessings every day, giving her time and support to those who needed a helping hand.

Ruth leaves behind her husband, William “Bill” Doten Sr. of Meddybemps, ME, the love of her life for 58 years. Surviving are her children, Cathy Hunter and her husband Kelly of Lisbon Falls, ME, William “Billy” Doten JR. of Meddybemps, ME, Janelle Randall and her husband Mike of Honolulu, HI, foster child Cindy (Speer) Moore, two sisters, Nancy Mosher of Milltown, ME and Harlene Davis of San Francisco, Ca, and brother Ricard “Dick” Cookson of Falls Church, VA. She had eight grandchildren: Ian, Elizabeth, Gwynne, and Kaitlyn Hunter, Ashley and Christopher Doten, Zackery Kelley, Sonya and Maverick Randall, two great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ruth was predeceased by an infant son Billy, her in-laws Bob and Blanche Doten of Baileyville, ME, and her daughter in-law Jennifer Reynolds of Meddybemps, ME..

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais.
