Calais – Ruth A. Redding, 89, died Monday, August 18, 2008 at a Bangor hospital. Ruth was born in Calais on January 1, 1919, daughter of the late William and Eugenia (Sullivan) Townsend. She worked as a clerk for the Maine Department of Human Services for over 35 years. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church of Calais and the Orion Chapter #45 Order of the Eastern Star. During her retirement years, Ruth enjoyed the time she and her husband Bob spent at their camp on Cathance Lake. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Frances Weeks; and three brothers, Norman, John and Charles Townsend. Surviving are her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Redding of Calais; a brother, Stewart Townsend and his wife Ramona Mahar of Hollis Center; a sister-in-law, Margaret Talbot of Rockland; several nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews who have benefited from her love and generosity; and a special friend, Marjorie Morrison of Calais.
