Obituary for Ruth L Skoog

Lubec – Ruth L. Skoog, 86, passed away Friday, September 03, 2010 at the Atlantic Rehab & Nursing Center in Calais. Ruth was born in Lubec on March 13, 1924, daughter of the late Vernon and Verna (Ramsdell) Leighton. She graduated from Lubec High School Class of 1942 and Beal College in Bangor with a degree in Business. Ruth moved to Boston, where she met Dennis Skoog. They married on June 13, 1953 in Whiting. Soon after they moved to Portland where they resided for several years until her husband’s job sent them to New Jersey, Virginia and eventually Texas. While in Texas, Ruth enjoyed volunteering at the Park Place Hospital in Port Arthur. Upon his retirement, they enjoyed summering in Lubec until they eventually moved there full time in 1989. Ruth was an active member of the West Lubec United Methodist Church and enjoyed sewing, baking pies and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Dennis Skoog Sr. in 2002; three sisters, Thelma Mahlman, Gwen Trecartin and Madeline Faye Leighton; and three nephews, Stephen Trecartin, Leonard Skoog and David Duncan. Surviving are her two children, Dennis Skoog Jr. of Calais, and Debra Dore of Houston, TX; two grandchildren, Jeffrey Dore and his wife Emily, and Michael Dore, both of Houston, TX; a sister-in-law Patricia Duncan of Camden; brother-in-law Leonard Skoog Sr. and his wife Edith of Vinal Haven; two nieces, Wendy Crossman of Camden, and Barbara Duncan of Portland; and two nephews Eric Skoog of Portsmouth, NH and Robert Mahlman and his wife Claudia of Lubec. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, September 27, 2010 at the Green Acres Cemetery in Lubec. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
