Edmunds – Samuel E. Cox, 76, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2009 surrounded by his family at his home. Sam was born on March 15, 1933 at the family homestead in Edmunds to Bernard Sr. and Ruth (Smith) Cox. After graduating from Dennysville High School, he entered the U.S. Coast Guard. In 1952, he married his love, Norma (Crosby) Cox. Following a successful career, Sam retired from the Coast Guard in 1972 as a Master Chief Quarter Master. He was a veteran of both the Vietnam and Korean Wars. Sam was a man who really enjoyed his retirement. He spent the rest of his days hunting, fishing, gardening, trapping and lobster fishing. In recent years he especially enjoyed time spent at the hunting camp in Plantation 14. Special memories included his daily fish feeding, family holidays and the annual “Grampa Sam’s Fishing Derby.” In addition to his parents, Sam was predeceased by a son, Dennis Samuel Cox; three brothers, Gerald, Bernard Jr. and Gilbert; a sister, Esther Ward; and his hunting buddy, Richard Seavey. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Norma Cox; his children, Jeanne Seavey, Stephen Cox and his wife Cindy, Deborah Leighton and her husband Glenn, Paul Cox and his wife Sherri, and Trudy Newcomb and her husband Randy; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Cox; his well loved 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers John Cox Sr., Louis Cox and his wife Sylvia, and Dana Cox and his wife Joyce; brother-in-law, Merton Ward; sister-in-law, Muriel Cox; many nieces and nephews; and his special friends, Allan Seavey and Frank Wood.
