Sarah Jean Curtis, 52, of Princeton, Maine, passed away on March 30th, 2022, due to complications related to cancer. She passed peacefully with family by her side.
Sarah was born on September 3rd, 1969, to John Kendig Whittaker and Elizabeth S Whittaker in East Orange, New Jersey. She spent the first ten years of her life in New Jersey before moving to Grand Lake Stream where she graduated from Woodland High School in 1987. After graduating from Washington County Community College with a degree in Nursing, she started her first post-graduate job at Calais Regional Hospital, which turned into a 12-year career in nursing that ended with two years at St. Croix Regional Health Center.
One of her favorite things was supporting her children in their after-school sports. She never missed a game if she could help it, always taking photographs for her kids but also for the whole team. She’d stay after too, taking pictures for anyone who asked. She loved traveling and camping whenever she could, and she always loved sharing her stories of her trip to the Grand Canyon. She also loved her animals dearly. In her younger days she would go country line dancing, and that’s where she met one of her best friends. In her last few weeks, she spent time with her youngest, Kris, cooking together.
She fought as long as she could for her children. It was her third battle with cancer, her first diagnosis being all the way back in 2009. She is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Whittaker Trezak, her mother, Elizabeth S. Whittaker, and her three children, Lisa, Emily, and Kris.
We’re proud of you Sarah, and we hope you are at peace now.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022 at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 29 Church St., Calais. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
