Pembroke – Sheldon Curtis Ashby, 86, passed away Friday, August 21, 2020 at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. Sheldon was born in Pembroke on February 22, 1934, son of Leander “Ted” and Elsie (Hood) Ashby.
Sheldon worked many years lobster fishing, scallop and urchin dragging, and clam digging. He started his clam business in Pembroke and distributed seafood throughout New England. Sheldon loved tending to his vegetable gardens, watching Gunsmoke, and listening to old country music.
In addition to his parents, Sheldon was predeceased by his wife Priscilla (Townsend) Ashby; four brothers, Stanley, Vernon, Herbert and Joseph; and a sister, Winniford. Surviving are his five children, Brenda McGuire and husband Wayne of Perry, Becky Ashby of TX, Betty Griffin and husband Timmy of Pembroke, Susan Preston of Machias, and Sally Ashby of Machias; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Phyllis Wilkins of FL; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 3:30 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2020 at Clarkside Cemetery in Pembroke. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
