Sheldon Bishop

Perry – Sheldon R. Bishop, 87, passed away at home on August 29, 2018 with his wife and daughter by his side. Sheldon was born in Perry on December 29, 1930 to Alton and Lola (Gove) Bishop. After graduating from Pembroke High School and serving in the United States Navy, he returned to Maine and attended Southern Maine Technical College where he trained to be a machinist. Sheldon lived for a short time in Dexter where he worked as a machinist before returning to Perry where he married Sarah J. Chandler on July 27, 1957.

Together they owned and operated Lila’s Bakery for many years but Sheldon was also a commercial lobster fisherman and operated his road construction truck for many years rebuilding Maine roads up until his retirement.

Sheldon is survived by his wife, Sarah J. Bishop; his daughter, Cindy Bishop and her husband Michael Hammonds of Sanford, FL; son Sheldon “Butch” Bishop and his wife Tammi of Red Beach; brother, Shirl Bishop of Ormand Beach, FL; niece, Debora Bishop and two nephews, Jeffrey and Brian Bishop.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Mays Funeral Home-Flagg Chapel, 72 High St., Eastport with Tessa Ftorek officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery in Perry. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
