Princeton – Shirley M. Bailey Cooke, 98, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the Calais Regional Hospital. Shirley was born in Haynesville on December 3, 1909, daughter of the late Herbert and Jessie (Rollins) Pelkey. She graduated from Princeton High School, Class of 1928. Shirley worked in the cafeteria at Georgia Pacific for 20 years. She was a long-time member of the Princeton Baptist Church where she sang in the choir for many years. Shirley was a member of the “What-so-ever Club” in Princeton and enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was predeceased by her husbands, George Bailey and Frank Cooke; a son, Edward Bailey; her sister, Alta Pelkey; her brother, Willis Pelkey; and four grandchildren, Peter, Aubrey, Staci and Sandy. Surviving are two sons, Douglas Bailey and his wife Audrey, and Elmer Bailey and his wife Linda, all of Princeton; three step-children, Shirley Stemmler, and Francis and Norman Cooke, all of Canada; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and a couple great-great grandchildren.
