Shirley E. Kidder

Shirley Evelyn Kidder, 85, passed away on Sunday September 4th, 2022 at Orono Commons Nursing Home. Shirley was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi on November 16th, 1936; daughter of Lenwood Lee Oden and Vivian Steele.

Shirley met her husband John (Jack) Kidder while he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas during the Korean War. They got married and moved to Woodland, Maine to raise a family. Shirley loved continuing education; she was a nurses aid care giver, an artist, and loved to write. Shirley inspired all three of her children to be in the medical field: a medical lab technologist (Mark), a dental hygienist (Susan), and a nurse (Janet). Shirley was also a member of the Methodist Church of Calais.

Shirley was predeceased by her husband John Kidder, daughter Janet Ward and grandson David Thompson. She is survived by her son Mark Kidder; daughter Susan Thompson and husband Brent Thompson; grandchildren Chris Ward and wife Valerie; Nathan Ward and wife Anna Belle; great grandchildren Evelyn and Elsie; grandson Spencer Ward and partner Erin Frost, great grandchildren Ella and Olivia; her son-in-law John Ward and wife Diane; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held on Saturday, October 1st, 2022.
