Baileyville – Shirley Marie McArthur, 61, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Calais Regional Hospital with her family by her side. Shirley was born in Calais on December 18, 1951, daughter of Robert and Gloria (Gaddis) Smith. She graduated from Woodland High School, Class of 1970, and went to cosmetology school in Lewiston. Shirley worked at the Calais Job Service until opening Valley Video and assisting her mother’s business Smith Florist in Baileyville, which she operated until her illness. She was a member of People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. Shirley’s grandchildren meant the world to her and she was looking forward to February when her sixth grandchild is due to be born.
Shirley was predeceased by her father Robert. Surviving are her mother Gloria Smith of Baileyville; four children, Brian McCray and Heather McCray, both of Baileyville, Dana Davis and her husband Glenn of Milford, and Christopher Everett and his fiancé Ashley Goodwin of Levant; five grandchildren, Mya, Emilee, Brady, Madison, and Colton; a brother Martin Smith and his wife Wanda of Lincoln; two nephews, Robert and Chad Smith; a great nephew Robbie and great niece Kayla; dear friends Dawn Chick and family; many special cousins; and numerous friends and family.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at People’s United Methodist Church in Baileyville.
