Obituary for Shirley Joyce Woody

Princeton – Shirley Joyce Woody, 92, passed away Monday, September 02, 2013 at Marshall Healthcare Facility in Machias. Shirley was born in Yakima, WA, on April 15, 1921, daughter of the late Willis and Anna (Pike) Hoard. She graduated from Yakima High School in WA and attended secretarial school. Shirley enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, playing scrabble, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and being with her family. She was also an active community and church volunteer and attended the First Baptist Church of E. Machias and the Princeton Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was predeceased by her husband Raymond Woody; a brother Willis “Bill” Hoard and his wife Margaret; and two grandsons, Graham and Andrew Woody. Surviving are her four children, Roger Woody and wife Gloria of Mancos CO, David Woody and wife Dianne Shirley of Bishop, CA, and her twin daughters, Deborah Woody of Granada Hills, CA, and Barbara “Bobbi” Mather and husband Pastor Al Mather of Princeton; six grandchildren, Scott Woody, Anna Mather, Amy Mahar and husband Matthew, Jonathan Mather and wife Lara, Julia Hochbaum and husband JP, and Lydia Mather; 14 great-grandchildren, three nieces and 1 nephew.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2013 at Princeton Baptist Church, 90 Main St., Princeton. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
