Baileyville - Sylvia Joyce (Nielsen) MacDougall, 85, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side Monday, February 21, 2022. She was born September 3, 1936 in New Denmark, New Brunswick – Daughter of the late J. Holger & Gerda Nielsen.
Sylvia was predeceased by her Husband of 41 years, Robert “Bob” MacDougall and a daughter Susan.
Sylvia looked forward to family get togethers and seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. She took pride in her independence which was clear to those who witnessed her mow her lawn weekly on her beloved “John Deere Tractor”. She was always up for a shopping trip or day adventure to the slots with her friends. She especially looked forward to her regular get togethers with the “Crazy Card Gang” and special outings.
Sylvia is survived by her sisters, Geneva Blanch of Halifax, Novia Scotia; Glenna Christensen of New Denmark, New Brunswick, and Shirley Hanscom and husband Darrill of British Columbia; and brother-in-law Bill McQuade of Sanford.
Sylvia will be dearly missed by her children: Brian Nielsen of Alberta, Canada; Shelly Maxwell and husband Frank of Alexander; Sherry Graham and husband Shawn of Glenburn; Grandchildren, Trina Nielsen and partner Craig Roderick of Baileyville, June Hamlin and husband Casey of Scarborough, Jason Croman and partner Erica Pike of Alexander, Casey Croman and partner Adam Meyer of Baileyville, Douglas Graham and fiancée Rachael Dahl of Florida, and Nicholas Graham and fiancée Kristina Willette of Bangor; Great-Grandchildren: Cameron, Connor, Ava, Bryson, Cedric, Elliott, Hailee & Emily; and many dear nephews and nieces.
Burial will be held in the springtime at the Woodland Cemetery in Baileyville with a Celebration of Sylvia’s Life to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sylvia’s memory may be made to Downeast EMS, PO Box 552, Calais, ME 04619. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
