Calais – Thelma A. Moreshead, 86, died Thursday, March 23, 2006, at a Calais nursing home. Thelma was born in Baring, January 31, 1920, daughter of the late Smith and Winifred (Preston) Doten. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Calais, and attended the First Baptist Church in Milltown. Thelma was a member of the Philathea Group and enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was predeceased by a son, George N. Moreshead; a granddaughter, Patricia Moreshead; four brothers, Albion “Mickey”, Bernard, Clyde, and Ottis Doten; and two sisters, Martina Howland, and Inas Frost. Surviving are her husband, George Moreshead; two children, Jerry A. Moreshead of Alexander, and Sandra Sherrard and husband Mike of Calais; two sisters, Winifred Elsemore of Meddybemps, and Evelyn Johnson of Baring; a brother, Norman Doten of Baring; four grandchildren, Kelly McCoubrey, Jeri-Mae Bryan, Michael and Christopher Sherrard; five great-grandchildren; a great-great grandson; a sister-in-law, Ethel Fitzpatrick of Calais; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastors Bob Hinton and Chris Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Baring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thelma’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
