Thomas Eugene Lewey, 67, passed away at his home in Perry on Friday, September 9, 2022.  Thomas was born in Eastport on March 10, 1955, the son of Sabattus and Irene Lewey.

Thomas graduated from Shead High School, and attended the University of Maine at Orono and Thomas College. Thomas was the Lt Governor of the Passamaquoddy Tribe, the Bi-Lingual Teacher at Beatrice Rafferty School, a teacher’s aide for summer youth work, and was a Council member and Housing Commissioner.

Surviving are his brother Sabattus Lewey Jr and wife Betty, sister-in-law Cyndi Lewey; Dennis Lewey and partner Sally Rice; Michael Lewey and wife Shonna; Jan Lewey; Gloria Lewey-Cleaves and husband Frank; Catha Lewey, Sandra Lewey, Evelyn Lewey, Paul Lewey, Walter Lewey and James Lewey; his very special friend Linda (Townsend) Lewey; foster child, Betty (Francis) Nelson; his canine companion, Precious; godchildren, Dominic Sapiel, Flora Zalubski, and Jeanette Keezer; and many nieces and nephews; best friends Joseph (Toast) Mitchell, Richard Keezer and Floyd Francis.

Thomas is predeceased by his parents, Sabattus Joseph Lewey Sr. and Irene Theresa Dana; brothers Alexander, Richard, Robert, Carlton and George; sister Gladys Paul; special niece Kimberly Neptune; his dog ZHAZHA and godchild Melanie Dana.

We would like to say a very special thank you to our sister-in-law Shonna Lewey for taking care of our brother Tom.  We appreciate her dedication and love she has shown with Tom.

Visitation will begin at 12:00 pm, Monday September 19th, 2022 at 73 Passamaquoddy Rd and will end at 2:00 pm, Wednesday September 21st, 2022; at the family’s request masks are required. The funeral will be held on Friday September 23rd, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Pleasant Point Tribal Cemetery. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
