Pembroke – Valerie O. Storey, 73, passed away at Downeast Community Hospital in Machias on January 1, 2020. Val was born on April 18, 1946 to Roy and Gwendolyn (Chase) McArthur, of Princeton where she grew up and attended school. She later received her GED at Washington County Technical College. Val married her best friend, Joseph G. Storey on September 20, 1963 in Princeton and together they soon relocated to Pembroke.
Val was a hard worker and a dedicated mother of five. She spent many years with the Dennysville Ambulance Service working as an EMT after a short stint with Eastbay Ambulance. She eventually changed direction and began driving a school bus for The Pembroke School Department where she dedicated over 30 years of enthusiasm to the many generations of students she drove bus for. She was very passionate about driving, she put in her best effort every time she got behind the wheel. In more recent years Val helped manage the Dennysville Snowmobile and ATV club, she loved being a part of her community and lived for her family.
She will be sadly missed by her husband, Joseph Storey Sr; her five children, Joseph Storey Jr and his wife Malinda of Perry; Melissa MacDonald and her husband Leslie of Robbinston; Felice Storey of Calais; Val Wilcox and Roy Storey, both of Pembroke; many grandchildren and greatgrandchildren who she loved dearly; special friends, Brenda Lingley, Joey McPhail and Derek and Bobbie Jo Brown; her extended family at The Dennysville Snowmobile and ATV Club, Dennysville Ambulance, Pembroke School and all her little darlings on the bus.
Valerie was predeceased by her parents, a special uncle, Leroy Chase and her son-in-law, Oliver Wilcox.
Val’s family would like to thank each and every member of the Dennysville ATV Club, Dennysville Ambulance and the Pembroke School for the benefit supper they most beautiful orchestrated as well as the community she so loved to belong.
Visitation will be held from 10 am – 12 pm, Friday, January 10th followed by a funeral service beginning at noon, all at The Iron Works Methodist Church, Little Falls Rd., Pembroke with Pastor Lori Lynch officiating. Committal will be at Clarkside Cemetery followed by a potluck gathering at the Dennysville Snowmobile & ATV Club, all are welcome. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
