Baileyville – Verna A. Norman, 89, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2012 at Colliers Nursing Home in Ellsworth. Verna was born in Calais on July 16, 1922, daughter of the late William and Jessie (Palmer) Warr. She graduated from St. Croix High School, Class of 1938, attended Miss Crabbe’s Business School in St. Stephen, and graduated from Cooley-Dickinson Nursing School, Class of 1943. On October 27, 1943, she married Lloyd B. Norman in Baileyville. For many years, Verna was a nurse for St. Croix Paper Co. and Georgia Pacific, as well as for Dr. Sears in Baileyville. She was one of the founding members of Woodland Baptist Church, where she was the pianist for over 50 years. In addition to being active in the church, Verna was a member of the Eastern Star and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed genealogy, crossword puzzles, but most importantly spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Lloyd. Surviving are her two sons, Karl Norman and his wife Nancy of Phippsburg, and David Norman and his wife Darlene of Baileyville; her sister Faye E. Drake of Amarillo, TX; three grandchildren, Mark Norman of Phippsburg, Erik Norman and his wife Meaghan of Durham, and Carrie Norman and her companion Dustin Sullivan of Baileyville; two great-granddaughters, Shelby and Kaitlyn; and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of Verna’s life will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Woodland Baptist Church in Baileyville. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery.
