Obituary for Virginia Littlefield Lewis

EASTPORT – Virginia Rose Littlefield Lewis, 92, went quietly at home August 4, 2010 in the company of her family and friends. Ginny was born in Bristol, NH on May 3, 1918. She attended Bristol schools and graduated from Plymouth Normal School (State College), Plymouth, NH in 1941. She met John Stanley Lewis of Eastport in NH, while he was stationed in Massachusetts. They were married in Eastport August 2, 1943. She, John, young John and Wende moved to Eastport in February 1947, which she considered home for the remainder of her life. Ginny taught school for 30 years, 28 years at the Eastport Schools. After retiring in 1979, she continued as a substitute teacher at area schools for several years. She was a member of Literary Round Table, Maine Retired Teachers Assoc., now MEA, and the Republican Party. Ginny served as Past President, Washington County Past Matrons & Past Patrons Association – order of the Eastern Star and Eastport Teacher’s Association. For many years, she hosted the visiting Navy ship commanders and local and state dignitaries on her front lawn for the Fourth of July parade and the Shriners Marching Units following the parade. She is survived by her children; John of York, Wende Pottle and husband Scotty of Perry, Robert and his wife Patricia of Eastport; her dear friend Merrill Conti of Eastport; and a niece, Shirley Littlefield of Bristol, NH; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by 5 siblings; a grandchild and her husband John, who passed away February 1953. She loved flowers and plants, giving educational guidance to the young children of her family, friends and caregivers, and choosing recipes to cook. Her later years were spent taking care of her cats, reading, running her home and supporting Republican candidates during elections. At 90 she published a cookbook of her favorite personal and Eastport recipes.
