Eastport - Walter E. Emery passed away on June 2nd at Marshall Manor in Machias. He was born in 1927 in the district of Dudley in Staffordshire, England, to Walter and Ethel (Houchin) Emery. He served an apprenticeship at Rolls Royce and was a pilot in the RAF during the final years of World War II. He emigrated to the United States at the age of 20 with his parents and younger sister on the Cunard White Star Limited ship Mauretania, arriving in New York City in July 1948. Walter was a naturalized U.S. citizen, and he loved this country intensely. He epitomized the American Dream, working his way up from being a mechanic for the New Jersey State Police to serving as Director of the Department of Machine Shops at Princeton University. He was married first to Cathy Davis, and later to Lynda Emery. His family moved to Eastport, Maine, upon his retirement in 1989. He is survived by his son, William Emery, and wife Jeongmin Yoo of Seoul, South Korea; his daughter, Megan Emery Schadlich, and husband Karl of Chattanooga, TN; one granddaughter, Yuri Emery; sisters Joan Fajgier of Whiting, NJ, and Liz (Myrtle) Swanson and husband Robert of Littleton, CO; by many nieces and nephews; and by his beloved brotherhood of U.S., Canadian, and European veterans. He was predeceased by his sister, Eileen Feazell; his brother in law, Joseph Fajgier; and a dear friend, Barbara Roberts, of Eastport. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 9th at Bayside Cemetery, Eastport.
