Willard F. “Sonny” Hornbrook, 82, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Calais Community Hospital. Sonny was born in Calais on June 14, 1941, son of Skiff and Annie (Donahue) Hornbrook.
Sonny graduated from Calais Memorial High School. During high school, he became a firefighter with Calais Fire Department. Sonny devoted much of his life to serving the Calais community, retiring as a Lieutenant. He worked as a painter with his brother John until starting his career as a mechanic with Georgia Pacific, from which he retired. Sonny was a Communicant of Immaculate Conception Church in Calais, and a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Croix Council #149. He was a proud member of the Down East Cruisers and enjoyed working on his antique cars, most recently his 1964 Chevy Impala. Sonny could often be found tinkering on woodworking projects and drinking coffee with friends at Dunkin.
In addition to his parents Skiff and Annie, Sonny was predeceased by his two brothers, John and William. Surviving are his son Mark Hornbrook and wife Brenda of Baring; Brenda’s daughter Alicia Marchese of Biddeford; Mark’s mother Marcia Hornbrook of Calais; two grandchildren, Arielle Hornbrook and fiancé Bryan Young of Searsport, and Jacob Hornbrook of Baring; a great-granddaughter Sawyer Young; a niece Julie Boies and husband Mike of Baileyville; nephews Greg Hornbrook of Calais, and Jimmy Hornbrook of Hampden; sister-in-law Betty Hornbrook; and a dear friend Vicki McLaughlin of Baileyville.
