William Stephen Barnes Sr., 80, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, surrounded by family at his home in Eastport. Bill was born in Old Orchard Beach on June 11, 1942, son of Maxwell and Angela (Francis) Barnes.
After attending school in Pembroke, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Germany. Following his service, he returned home and started working as a carpenter for Passamaquoddy Housing and doing seasonal jobs such as wreath making and blueberries. Bill later, along with his son Michael, worked for his nephew Michael Murphy building houses and for Federal Marine as a longshoreman until his retirement in 2020. He enjoyed bowling, yard sales, wreath making, watching tennis, and dancing. Family was everything to Bill. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports, and having his annual family BBQ following the 4th of July parade.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Dawn (Murphy) Barnes; three children, Dorothy, Michelle, and Robert Barnes; a grandson Darrin Wayne Lingley; and his brother Maxwell “Chick” Barnes. Surviving are two sons, William Barnes Jr. and wife Janet of Edmunds, and Michael Barnes and wife Michele of Princeton; nine grandchildren, Lindsey, Amanda, Peter, Clifford, Rachel, Timothy, Tyler, Nicholas, and Sierra; twelve great-grandchildren, Maia, Adraina, Shaylynn, Tanisha, Evan, Cooper, Skinuhsis, Cameron, Natalie, Jamison, Harmony, and Jaxson; siblings Delia Trott, Sylvia Corson, Gerald Barnes, Sherman “Sam” Barnes, James Barnes, Edward Barnes and wife Blanch, Sandra Murphy and husband Charles, Tony LaCoute and wife Shirley, Frances LaCoute, and Angela McPhail; and numerous nieces and nephews.
