Eastport – William L. Collins, 76, passed away Thursday, March 12, 2009 at his home. William was born in Eastport on March 1, 1933, son of the late John and Beulah (Danks) Collins. After graduating from Shead High School, Class of 1952, he entered the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War. William returned to Eastport working various jobs until his start at Guilford Industries, where he worked for over 30 years. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias Anchor Lodge #41 in Eastport. William enjoyed traveling to the Grand Lodge meetings and other meetings throughout Maine with his friend Roland Mitchell. He also enjoyed umpiring little league and other sports. In addition to his parents, William was predeceased by his wife, Agnes (Durant) Collins; and his brothers and sisters. Surviving are his children, Barbara Barnes and her husband Jim of Eastport, and William Collins and his wife Linda of Hampden; four grandchildren, Jeff Frankland and his partner Michael Doiron of Salem, NH, Nicole Barnes of Brewer, John Barnes and his companion Pam Conley of Eastport, and Ross Collins of Pleasant Point; three great-grandchildren, Maleekah, Shaelyn and Ava; and his canine companion, Sheba. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Homes, Calais & Eastport.
