Pembroke – William R. “Bill” Cook, 86, went to be with the Lord on March 2, 2008 after a short illness at Calais Regional Hospital. Bill was born on February 20, 1922 in Perry to Edith B. and Edwin Cook, and graduated from Pembroke High School. He was a WWII Veteran, serving with the US Army in the Philippines and Japan. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying all the Maine sports. In his younger days, he was a Maine Guide. Bill was a member of the American Legion in Pembroke and donated his time and energies to the Methodist Church and parsonage in Pembroke. Bill will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and always ready to lend a helping hand if needed. Bill will be remembered as being a loving husband and father. He was predeceased by a son, William W. Cook in 2005. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary Kelley Cook; a daughter, Joyce Tompkins of Calais; eight grandchildren, Richard Tompkins of S.C., Judy Tompkins of Calais, Bruce Tompkins of Washington D.C., Bradley Tompkins of Perry and their families, Tony Cook of Eastport, Linda Snowdeal of Jonesboro, Steven Cook of FL, and Elaine Horne and their families; a sister, Marion Bragg of CA and her family; a brother, Colby and Elsie Cook of Perry; and a special friend, Ron Powers of Perry. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Clarkside Cemetery, Pembroke. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
