Calais – William “Billy” Dean, 85, died Friday, December 7, 2007 at Atlantic Rehab and Nursing Center in Calais. Billy was born in Baileyville, December 17, 1921, son of the late Edward and Charlotte (Thibodeau) Dean. Just weeks before graduating from Woodland High School, Billy entered the U.S. Army, serving as a Medical Technician with Company B 313th Medical Battalion during WWII. During this time, he received the Purple Heart. Returning from the war, Billy became a long time employee of St. Croix Paper Co. and Georgia Pacific. On May 20, 1950, he married Charlotte Hartford in Calais. Billy was proud to receive his honorary diploma from Woodland High School in 2003. He was a member of Bethel Chapel in Waite-Talmadge and enjoyed being around children and animals. Billy loved and respected his family and friends, particularly his grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by four sisters, Evelyn Hanson, Elizabeth Eaton, Edith Storey, and Barbara Flood; and a brother, James Dean. Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Charlotte; three children, Dexter Dean and his wife Neera of Naugatuck, CT, Greg Dean and his wife Jill of Wardsboro, VT, and Lorraine Daggett and her husband David of Calais; a sister, Madeline Perkins and her husband Leo of Baileyville; two brothers, Lawrence Dean and his wife Charlotte of Baileyville, and Everett Deane and his wife Beverly, of Baileyville; two grandchildren, Steven Serrano and his wife Anna of Memphis, TN, and Tara Dean of Avon, CT; a great-grandson, Nicholas Serrano; and many nieces and nephews. A private burial will take place in St. Stephen Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Billy’s memory may be made to a church of your choice.
