Lubec-Wilmer “Si” Simonson, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather went to be with his Lord, surrounded by many of his loved one. He was the first born to Alvin and Lillian (Frosaker) Simonson in North Dakota, March 1939. Si served in the U.S. Navy as a Sea Bee, earning his GED and an honorable discharge. He drove tractor trailer for over 20 years crisscrossing the country before moving to what became his beloved Lubec. He was known to be a very hard worker keeping his customers in firewood, digging clams, cutting pulp wood, running his cedar mill, maintaining a weedless garden, running a blueberry field all day and raking himself until dark. He was a steward of the land, he respected the forest and was very selective as to what to cut for wood and when, and the same went when tipping for the wreath makers, always leaving plenty for next year. He really enjoyed his ride to Caribou with his wife for the spring yard sale, always returning with many treasures! Si also enjoyed picking berries in season with his bucket around his neck to keep jam and jelly in the home for the family. Nothing brought him more pleasure than the reward of grandchildren and great grandchildren and watching them grow. Si, always called Wilmer by his family, was very proud of his Norwegian heritage and his massive family sharing many stories of his family’s history and farming life in his home state. Holding wonderful memories in their hearts forever are his wife of 51 years, Cecelia, his children Melissa and her husband Dana, Stacey, Tammy and her love Ricky Wright, Melanie and her fiancé Nate Chisholm, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and his Ikey and Leona Denbow. Countless nieces and nephews who loved Uncle Si very much. Siblings Marcella and her husband Bill, Rodney and his wife June, Judy and her husband Pat, Darlene and her husband Gary, Bob and his wife Nora and youngest brother Steve. The family would like to thank everyone for all the support and kindness throughout the years, Si was so blessed to have Janey, Dougy, Loretta and Jolene by his side countless times to help support his family in such a trying time. Si was always so grateful to his oncologist, Dr. Berg, affectionately called “Lady Bird”, CancerCare of Maine and CHC workers. A memorial service for Si will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Hope Bible Fellowship in Whiting with Pastor Bill Dodge officiating. Arrangements by Mays Funeral Home, Calais & Eastport.
