Winifred Virginia Smith

Eastport – Winifred V. Smith, 90, died Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Eastport Memorial Nursing Home. Winifred was born in Eastport, February 22, 1917, daughter of Walter and Ida (Dodge) Kierstead. She enjoyed swimming, spending time at the lake, camping, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren. Winifred was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Leighton; her second husband, Glendon Smith; two brothers, Winfield and Philip Kierstead; and a sister, Barbara Cushing. Surviving are her son, Wesley Leighton and wife Sallie of Punta Gorda, FL; four step-children, Vernon Smith and wife Joyce of Carmel, Patricia Turner of Hermon, Glenda Mixer and husband William of Carmel, and Priscilla McIntire and husband George of Wichita Falls, TX; two sisters, Geraldine Kinney of Eastport and Beatrice Cummings of Eastport; four brothers, Alfred Kierstead of Eastport, Charles Kierstead of Southport, N.C., John Kierstead of Quinton, VA, and David Kierstead of Portsmouth, NH; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
